It was my birthday a few days ago and what better way to celebrate but to go out to dinner to one of my favorite spots in Buenos Aires. There are many different types of parrillas (steakhouses) in the city, but this one is that I call special. I love this little place called El 22.
It is located in Palermo Hollywood, in a very trendy area, but you will not find it in any tour guide or web site.
To describe it is this simple: when you get to eat like the locals eat, and see no tourists, you know you have a good shot at having a great meal. It is a very classic parrilla, nothing fancy, but the meat is of very good high quality and the price is fantastic.
Moreover, the portions of beef are smaller, which can be a good thing since so often in Buenos Aires restaurants you will find these massive portions, and since you cannot really take it home, you end up eating the whole thing, filling heavy thereafter, dying for an alkaselser. So, you will be relieved to find only and 8oz portion of bife de lomo (con chimichurri).
The wine list is extent and desserts are just plain simple (the flan and the budín de pan are a must). When it is time to pay you are amazed how much you´ve got for such a small bill. I don´t know how it is possible, but seeing and tasting is believing!!
We usually go with a bunch of people and since it is such a small place it gets to be crowded, so call to make reservations or get there before 8 pm or you will have to wait a long time for a table.

Tango started at the beginning of the 1900′s as a way of entertainment for porteños as well as for those immigrants who spent all day working very hard and wanted to relax and have fun at night. Prohibited for women, tango was danced only by prostitutes and amongst men as well. With time, tango...
