My view from the outside deck of C4
Named the “Best Coffeehouse & Best Wine Bar 2008″ by Best of Greater Phoenix, the Cave Creek Coffee Company & Wine Bar known as C4 is a great spot for morning coffee, afternoon lunch and late night wine and martinis. They have it all! A favorite hang-out of mine, I’ve always been impressed by the eclectic crowd it attracts. Even though it can be a stopping point for many motorcycle riders in the early morning, I’ve also seen everything...

Passengers on the Verde Canyon Railroad enjoy a four-hour round trip scenic train ride to the ghost ranch of Perkinsville in first-class style aboard renovated passenger coaches and open-air viewing cars pulled by vintage locomotives. The train rolls past Indian ruins, through a 680-foot man-made tunnel, and towering red rock formations.

Get “Schooled” in Wine…High School Was Never This Fun!

I remember high school as being a bunch of classes that were supposed to prepare us for the real world. If we wanted, we could take some electives like Automotive and Shop Class. Personally, I was not in my realm when it came to these two courses, I was in the band. But had I actually been offered an agricultural class like the ones offered at Istituto Superiore di Istruzione Agraria: Duca degli Abruzzi, roughly translated as “Higher Institute of Agricultural Instruction” I might have...

For one night, the restaurants in CityPlace will gather together for a food and wine extravaganza at The Harriett Himmel Theater. Along with great food and divine wine, guests will be entertained by the music...

Free Wine Every Saturday in Edinburgh

What better way to spend a Saturday than lazing away sipping a glass of free wine at one of the tastings at Nicolas on Edinburgh’s fashionable George Street?
Nicolas is a Parisian wine merchant – you’ll find some of the best deals on French wine in the shop. They also offer spirits, whisky, cider should wine not really be your first choice.
Visit the Nicolas website for more information, including the next tasting dates and times.

Wine Tasting in Orange

The last of day my recent holiday could only mean one thing: more wine tasting. Sadly many wineries in the region are closed through the week, and while they say they’re happy to accept appointments many phones rang out. As it turned out, we spent so much at the wineries we did see that it may have been a good thing our activities were tempered!
Our first stop was Orange Mountain Wines. It came highly recommended from a family friend, whose son had worked here some years prior. Viognier is their...

I could try to convince you my husband I travelled to New South Wales’ Central West for the peaceful atmosphere or the history, but I’d be lying. We really came in search of wine. And with 35 cellar doors in the area, it was pretty easy to find.
Our first stop was the Mudgee Honey Haven, driven by our love for mead. This traditional alcoholic beverage doesn’t tend to be made by many Aussies, so it’s always a real treat to find someone who does it. Mead is at its best when it’s warmed,...

Dining at the Wineries of Mendoza – Ruca Malen

Now to be completely honest, when we went to Ruca Malén it was purely for a tasting, and didn’t even know they did lunch. Unfortunately for us, we arrived just after lunch, and boy did we regret not having come two hours earlier.
We arrived to a small room of happy diners, groaning with pleasure and surrounded by a sea of empty wine glasses and plates. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive response, Ruca Malen’s wine-paired lunch is well worth the visit; Vines of Mendoza rates it as one of...

To keep this organised, I’m going to review my Mendoza favourites in the following order:
wineries we love for tasting
must-do wineries for gourmet lunch (naturally with wine pairings)
restaurants best for a splurge dinner, most of them in wineries as well, or at least for the serious wine drinker (or aspiring oenophile!)
Salud!
