The Washington DC Tango Festival celebrates the romance and passion of the hottest Latin dance – Tango.
One of the highlights of the 10-day celebration of tango music, dance and cinema is Two To Tango, featuring 30 world-class dancers, musician and singers from Argentina and Uruguay.
Ballroom Tango originated in the poorer, working-class districts of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Initially considered immoral due to suggestive moves and passionate music, tango’s popularity grew rapidly, and...

If you ever get a desire to visit a Parisian café, but would prefer to avoid the transatlantic flight, then stop by Bistrot Du Coin, in Washington, DC’s Dupont Circle neighborhood.
The café is known for its Gratinée des Halles (French Onion Soup), along with their ten varieties of steamed mussels.
The classic French Onion soup, at $6.95, is served piping hot in a large stoneware crock. It’s rich and topped with a generous amount of flavorful Guerre cheese. It is like most restaurant...

Last Chance to See DC’s Blossoming Trees this Spring
Warning: strpos() [function.strpos]: Offset not contained in string. in /var/www/blog/wp-content/themes/ISOMagazine/functions.php on line 317
By now, all the Washington, DC cherry blossoms around the National Mall have come and gone. I confirmed it this past weekend.
And just a few of the colorful spring blooming trees, such as a couple late –blooming magnolia trees are still offering visitors delightful views.
However, around the Capitol Building, I found what may be some of the final rich and colorful blooms of the spring in the National Mall area.
So this is your last chance to get a glimpse of the area’s magnolia...

Goodbye DC Cherry Blossoms…Hello Tulips!

The famous Washington, DC cherry blossoms have come and gone. So if you missed the annual display of color, you’ll have to wait until next year.
But that doesn’t mean the National Mall isn’t still full of beautiful color.
The annual explosion of spring flowers, mostly tulips have bloomed in flower beds all over the mall, most notably at the National Park Service’s Tulip Library, on the northern border of the Tidal Basin, between the Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument.

Debunking An Urban Myth on the World War II Memorial…“So Help Us God”
Warning: strpos() [function.strpos]: Offset not contained in string. in /var/www/blog/wp-content/themes/ISOMagazine/functions.php on line 317
Recently I received a reader’s comment to the post I wrote about the World War II Memorial, which is located on the National Mall in Washington, DC.
It seems there have been multiple e-mails floating around cyberspace stating that the inscription on the memorial of President Roosevelt’s December 8th, 1941 “Day of Infamy” speech left off the key phrase, “…so help us God.”
The memorial’s inscription reads:
Pearl Harbor – December 7, 1941, a date which will live...

I was walking around National Harbor and came across a very interesting, unique and fun gallery – Art Whino.
The gallery, which not too long ago moved to National Harbor from Alexandria, brings together new, raw and fresh artists in a variety of styles, including pop art, lowbrow, surrealistic and contemporary.
One unique aspect of the collection is the display of 35 custom painted Tagus AKA gym shoes, created by different artists.

Only one American sitting President has come under hostile fire while Commander in Chief – Abraham Lincoln. And you can visit the spot at Fort Stevens, in Northwest Washington, DC.
The incident that involved Lincoln happened while General Ulysses S. Grant and the Army of the Potomac was at the outskirts of Richmond, ready to cut the Confederacy’s jugular and end the war.
But the South wasn’t finished. General Robert E. Lee boldly attempted a move that, if successful, might require...

Here’s a few photos from this morning around the Jefferson Memorial and the National Mall. As you can see, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and spectacular!!
The weather cooperated nicely today, providing clear, blue skys. But the strong winds may cause some of the blooms to be blown away prematurely, so if you want to see the trees in all their glory, it’s best to make a visit to the National Mall as soon as you can.

Last night, I attended the play Chicago – The Musical at The National Theatre. It was a great production which I’ll be reviewing on The DC Traveler in the next couple days.
But immediately after the play, John O’Hurley, who plays Billy Flynn in the Washington, DC production, walked into Old Ebbitt Grill accompanied with a group of about ten people who all had just stepped out of two strech limos.
While walking in, several people complimented him on his performance which graciously accepted.

On the first tour, join an actor playing a free black woman, seamstress and confidante to First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln, in “Mrs. Lincoln’s Confidante: Elizabeth Keckly”.

Zaytinya is one of my favorite places to eat in Washington, DC.It serves mostly mezze (little) plates with Mediterranean and Middle East, notably Greek, Turkish and Lebanese influences.
Located in the heart of Penn Quarter, just a block from the National Portrait Gallery and Museum of American Art, the restaurant is warm and open, with high ceiling and a fair amount of noise and “buzz”, and often crowded without feeling overly packed.
If you desire something a bit quieter or away from the...

If you think of ballet as something as a woman’s turf, think again.
Filipino male ballet dancer and choreographer Jason Ignacio was named the Outstanding Emerging Artist during the 24th Annual DC Mayor’s Arts Awards. And when asked about this prestigious honor, Ignacio could only think of his humble beginnings.
“It is a very humbling experience to be recognized in the performing arts community. All I can think of is how proud I am to be Filipino,” he said.
