Multicultural Shopping Special
... way I’m going to venture out in the madness.
But if you’re looking for that gift that’s really special, where do you go? The big Shopping centres all seem to offer the same run-of-the-mill gifts, and the boutique shops get so expensive! How about taking a global approach? Sydney’s a multicultural city, and that extends to our Shopping! These fantastic stores offer up some really unique gift ideas with an international flavour.

Otavalo Market: Indigena Central
... traditional dress—decidedly not put on for the tourists.
I wish I had good pictures of my own of the market, but to be honest we were too busy Shopping! I’m almost embarrassed to admit that we had to shop for more bags just to carry the mountain of alpaca we bought. (Hint: old rice sacks work well, and are cheaply bought in the dry goods section of the food market.)
Note that although Saturday is the biggest day, especially for the more local markets, pretty much any day is good–there...

The long standing Pike Place Market is a year round location for fresh produce, seafood and meats, as wells as crafts, and handiwork. It’s spread out over...

Washington’s Clean Car Law

Leather Central: Cotacachi, Ecuador
... manufacturers of leather goods. Stores showcasing beautiful leather luggage, hats, belts, boots and shoes, and of course jackets line one main Shopping street in the town, spilling over to the nearby blocks.
While the quality may not be quite up to Argentinean standards (although the best comes close), and the prices may not be as rock-bottom as Bolivia, Cotacachi combines the two, making for a bargain with a minimum of compromises (read: you don’t come home looking like a third-world Michael...

Plaza Shopping Centre
Schiphol Plaza is a Shopping centre and part of the arrival hall. It open for everybody whether you are booked on a flight or not. It is buzzing with activity. I received a forwarded email from my boss at Planeteye (hey Mark!) from someone who recently moved to Munich and had some questions. So I thought, “Maybe there are more people out there who have questions about Munich that I haven’t covered in my posts and they’re just dying out there without me to help them”.
Well, I’m giving you a voice!
I opened an email account just for you lovely readers out there to ask questions, suggest topics, or give feedback! After reviewing...

Antique Books: Gateways into Our Shared Past

You may not be able to read the German language, nor do you know how to pronounce the letter ß (sounds like “ss”), but that doesn’t mean that you should pass up the opportunity to own some pretty amazing antique books. I may be one of the few, but I absolutely love antique books whether 50 or 500 years old, I love them all! These items can only grow in their worth and it’s also a great way to preserve some of our shared past through literature. You might even be able to find...

Thank You to the Cows – Buying Leather in BA
... as I could.)
Enter BA leather. In our experience, most guidebooks and tourist folks will tell you to go to Florida Street, the long pedestrianised Shopping avenue downtown (aka Microcentro). We disagree. Sure, there are tons of stores, but most of them have inferior quality (read: tourist trap). Plus they all have the same damned things. Worst, you get hassled—a lot. (“Hey man, buy leather jacket?”) Who needs it?
Unless all you are looking for is a cheap souvenir or a casual present, skip...

You may think that it is a bit too early to be planning for Oktoberfest, but in actuality, it’s about time to start booking! Hotels all around Munich book up way in advance, and of course, flight prices will skyrocket.
Book your hotel…TODAY. Check out the various hostels, pensions, hotels etc as there are many many many in the city. If you want to go for your standard Marriot or Holiday Inn, that’s fine, but note that their prices will be higher than normal. Take any web browser...

28 Sport – BA's Groovy Shoes for Guys
... is ridiculously affordable. Add to this the Argentinean sense of style (inherited from their Italian cultural ancestry) and you have one great Shopping opportunity.
In a sea of women’s shoes, jackets and purses (don’t worry ladies, I have suggestions for you too) one men’s fashion mecca stands out: 28 Sport, home of some of the world’s grooviest handmade leather shoes. And they’re overwhelmingly for men.

Here we are at what is supposed to be a lovely weekend. So, what are you going to do? You’ve seen all of the major sights, gone to all the Museums and if you sit out in the Englischer Garten like you did last weekend you’re bound to be mistaken for a lobster. It’s time for Tollwood!
Tollwood is Munich’s bi-annual music and arts festival in Olympia Park, which is celebrating it’s 20th birthday. In addition to some of the greatest performers and fantastic art shows, Tollwood...

Walking around the city, you’ll notice that Munich has retained much of its small town charm when it comes to Shopping. You buy your meat at the butcher, bread at the baker, shoes at the shoe shops, wines at the wine shops, the list goes on and on. While it may take a bit of getting used to, I have grown quite accustomed and appreciative of these specialty shops. Talk to the owners or employees and they’ll tell you, in detail, why the Brie cheese made from farm #1 is better than the Gouda...

You’ve done the sightseeing, the picture taking and now you’re ready for one of my favorite parts of any trip: Souvenier Shopping. Now you could go for the standard key chain or array of post cards, maybe even a t-shirt, but why not buy a souvenier that you will a) never be able to purchase anywhere outside of Germany, b) celebrate Bavarian culture and c) use time and time again? That’s right ladies and gentlemen, I’m saying that you should make an investment that will last a lifetime of...
