Enhance Your Mind in Coffeeshop Dampkring
... coffee + shop and the new word coffeeshop takes a completely new meaning. The Dutch coffeeshop is a licensed place that sells hash, cannabis and marihuana.
Tucked away in Handboogsteeg, a narrow alley off bustling Kalverstraat is Dampkring Coffeeshop, a haven of haze or a circle of smoke as the name suggests.
Dampkring translates as Earth’s Atmosphere, but this is not what the name refers to. Dampkring suggests people puffing away. The result is that the coffeeshop is enveloped in a haze of smoke.
Dampkring...

The Cannabis Cup is the largest marijuana festival in the world. Cannabis experts sample the latest varieties of pot and select the strain they like best. Hundreds of judges, people like you and me, indulge and taste the new harvest to find out which of the different weeds is the most...

Writing on the Wall in Coffee Shop Hill Street Blues
... shops. They serve frothy cappuccino and fragrant tea, but that’s not why people go to coffeeshops. Dutch coffeeshops are places that sell hash and marihuana openly. This doesn’t mean that possession of drugs is legal in the Netherlands.
Possession of small quantities is decriminalised. Advertising marihuana is not allowed so you will have to go the bar and ask Mr Dealer for the menu, which shows a variety of weed and hash and their prices. On average they start at €4 per gram. Coffeeshops...

Armchair Travel in Amsterdam’s Red Light District
When you think of Amsterdam what springs to mind?
Windmills, clogs, pot, sex, canals, coffeeshops, tulips, Red Light District?
It’s true Amsterdam is a mixture of vices and virtues that come together in the Red Light District, right in the centre of the oldest part of the city. Rub shoulders with locals and tourists. Come during the day or in the evening. Gawk at the window prostitutes and smoke a joint or just walk along the Oudezijds Achterburgwal, one of the many canals in Amsterdam.
Dangerous?...

Mr Dealer Shows His wares
Green Place coffeeshop is a newcomer. It opened only four years ago and looks like an ordinary cafe. If you’re new to the weed scene, this coffeeshop is a good place to smoke your first joint. They also serve lots of different teas and hot chocolate. It is also a good place to stop if you don’t smoke pot.
After the introduction of the non-smoking rules on 1 July 2008, smokers and non-smokers cannot mix. That’s why Green Place has a separate area for smokers. Listen to a mix of...

Coffeeshop Nieuwe Dampkring
Nieuwe Dampkring, Haarlemmerstraat 44, has the same cosy atmosphere as its sister coffeeshop, Dampkring in Handboogstraat, but Nieuwe Dampkring has a completely different approach to colour scheme and architectural design.
The outside of the building is in traditional Amsterdam style. The inside is three floors of steel, chrome, hi-tech video installation and special effects-lighting. All this creates a 21st century industrial feel emphasized by an earthly colour scheme with lots of greens and blacks.
The...

Breakfast at Barney’s Coffeeshop
Start your day at Barney’s Coffeeshop at 7 am. Tuck in a breakfast of bacon and eggs. Smoke a joint afterwards while reading the morning papers. Barney’s is the only coffeeshop that sells a full Irish breakfast at this time of day (Barney’s is Irish owned). No need to come so very early because you can have your breakfast until 4 pm.
Barney’s consists of four outlets: the Coffeeshop, the Farm, Uptown and the Lounge. All are popular with the expat community and locals, but...

Coffee Shops aka Hash Bars
... is good to know that possession of soft drugs is decriminalised in the Netherlands and anyone over eighteen is allowed to have 30 grams.
