English naturalist and eminent scientist Charles Darwin helped convince the world to accept the scientific principals of natural selection and evolutionary biology. His 1859 book, On the Origin of the Species, helped lead the non-scientific world to understand that man evolved over millions of years from apes. While the theory had been around since before the time of Aristotle, it had never been effectively and scientifically expressed.
Darwin took complex biological subjects and made them accessible...

I always find it very nostalgic to visit heritage houses. Memories of my childhood living in prairie farming communities are vividly brought to mind as I wander the old houses with their iron wood-burning stoves, the galvanized wash tubs, the pantries and elaborate sitting rooms (always reserved for when company came), the old barns full of rusting farm equipment, the hand-worked pump over the well in the farmyard.
Last weekend, my friend and I took a trip out to South Surrey to the pictureque...

Both a practical means of transportation, and a fun visitor activity, taking a ride on the Washington State Ferry affords terrific views of the downtown Seattle skyline. This shot was taken onboard a Bainbridge Island bound ferry.
Don’t let the dropping temperatures scare you away from a ride, either. Cold, crisp fall days provide a beautiful look back at the city, and the myriad colors that fall brings. And if it rains, don’t worry, you can pop inside and keep dry and warm.
