Forget the economic crisis. Sydney chef Luke Mangan is slashing his prices, making it even easier for local foodies to indulge.
His Glass restaurant in the Hilton Hotel will still offer its signature $30 and $40 dishes, but they’ll be served in addition to new $20 options including pastas.
“Simple and affordable food, that’s where we’re headed,” the high-profile chef told The Sunday Telegraph.
I can’t wait to try some of his new budget meals!

When Neil Perry puts his name to a restaurant there’s bound to be interest. When the kitchen team includes restaurant manager Baci Moore (ex Longrain, Tetsuya’s, Nobu London) and head chef Andy Evans (ex XO and Rockpool Sydney), my mouth starts to water. Prepare to worship at Spice Temple.
The Chinese cuisine pays homage to the country’s regional dishes from the provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan, Hunan, and Gaungxi. As the restaurant’s name suggests, these meals are liberally seasoned with traditional...

Oliveto Ristorante and Bar offers authentic Italian food, breathtaking water view, and friendly service, and you don’t need to go into the city to get it.
Oliveto is in Rhodes, 10 minutes from Stadium Australia and Homebush Bay. It offers an ambience rarely seen so far out west, thanks to its picturesque location in the Brays Bay Reserve. It looks out to the Parramatta River. It may not be Sydney Harbour, but it’s picturesque all the same.
With all pasta made fresh on the premises, it’s hard...

Italian Indulgence at Beresford Trattorio

Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen in Sydney, but that only ensures that the really special ones stand out. Beresford Trattorio is just such a place, but what else would you expect with Danny Russo at the helm?
There’s a reason why Mr Russo has such a reputation. His dishes are inventive, while maintaining the rustic charms Italian is famous for. Dishes like the tagliatelle with truffled meatballs, squid ink tortellini stuffed with crab meat, and the stuffed rabbit leg are truly indulgent.

A few weeks ago I brought you a special on international shopping destinations in the city. But of course, the influence of multiculturalism doesn’t just affect what we buy. It also affects what we eat. We can’t all afford to travel around the world to try the best authentic ethnic cuisine, but you don’t have to if you’re staying in Sydney. Here are some of the best “eat streets” in the city.
King Street, Newtown offers a taste of Asia, with goat aloo at Delhi O Delhi, Cambodian food...

Italian Indulgence at Carpaccio

My husband and I eat out a lot, so it takes something really special to blow us away. But that’s exactly what happened when we ventured into Leichardt’s Carpaccio last night. Really, you can’t go wrong when you head to Norton Street for Italian food, but this was one of those meals which simply wowed us.
I was taken in by the promise of ravioli with duck and porcini mushrooms in a Riesling cream sauce, and this was definitely the highlight of my experience. All that tender duck...

Just because you have to eat at the airport does not mean that your meal has to be boring or cliché. Check out the Hofbräu Bistro in Terminal 1, which is a fantastic café filled with all of the delicious traditional snacks that you will be leaving behind. Spend your morning with a traditional weißwurst breakfast complete with a weißbier. Just a tip, take the skin off before you eat the sausage! Try out the Mangostin restaurant in Terminal 2, which serves up sushi, thai food, noodles and yummy...

Velero Brings European Fare to Woolloomooloo
... one of the main meals for a real feast. With dishes like home-made pasta and fresh market fish on the menu, you can’t really go wrong.
This is a dining experience as it should be, with unpretentious dishes which let the flavours of the fresh produce shine through. Imported Spanish sherry and beer, and an extensive wine list featuring some wonderful Spanish and grape varieties, are the perfect accompaniment to this fine food.
