Luau at Trader Vic’s
Looking for an occasion to wear your best Hawaiian shirt? Trader Vic’s at Hotel Valley Ho (map) in Old Town Scottsdale is celebrating their 4th anniversary on Sunday, July 11 with a luau.
As I’ve mentioned before, this is not your parents Trader Vic’s with the tacky tiki lamps and bad music. Whether I’ve celebrated happy hour or a full three course dinner at this trendy hot spot, it’s always been a great evening out. I’ve always found the service to be friendly, attentive and...

Be a patriot by ordering a Stars and Stripes Martini at Ra Sushi (map). This cocktail, made of vodka and summer fruits like lemon, raspberries and blueberries, is sure to start off your evening with a bang.

March 24th, The Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice
Argentina is full of stories, some of them peculiar, some of them dreadful… Today we commemorate a sad one. The Day of Remembrance for Truth and Justice (Día de la Memoria por la Verdad y la Justicia) is a public holiday in Argentina, commemorating the victims of the military dictatorship known as the National Reorganization Process (Proceso de Reorganización Nacional). It is held on 24 March, the anniversary of the coup d’état of 1976 that brought the military junta to power.

Luck ‘O the Irish, Y’all: St. Patrick’s Celebrations in the South
Okay, so while the real St. Patrick’s Day isn’t until March 17, that doesn’t stop places from celebrating early. Even in the South.
If you can’t make it to Savannah, Ga., or any other place that’s known for their celebration, don’t worry, because there’s a lot of events to choose from around the region.
Green fudge, green waterfall – oh my! Rock City in Lookout Mountain, Ga., (map) becomes Shamrock City this weekend. The festival features a line-up of Irish musicians, specialty...

Solvang Danish Days Weekend Celebration
The village-like community of Solvang, known as the “Danish Capital of America,” this weekend celebrates its 73rd annual celebration of all things Danish. Of course there will be the luscious, flaky, warm-from-the-oven pastries for which the Danes are known. In addition, visitors can plan to do things other than chew (or as they chew!).
Olsen's, a typical Solvang bakery
Sponsored by the Danish Days Foundation, which honors Solvang’s 1911 establishment by Danish-Americans, this...

Santa Monica Pier Centennial Celebration
On September 9, the landmark Santa Monica Pier will celebrate its 100the birthday in grand style with fireworks, entertainment, activities, and other frivolity.
100 years of welcoming visitors
The 1,600-foot-long concrete municipal pier opened on September 9, 1909. Originally constructed for sanitation purposes, it didn’t take long before the pier became a favorite hangout for the fishing community. Funseekers came in droves after imaginative entrepreneurs constructed a roller coaster, ballroom,...

Los Angeles Labor Day Events
As the official end of summer draws near, Labor Day weekend (September 5-7) offers a plethora (hate that word, but currently at a loss for another!) of interesting events, festivals, and concerts. Some require admission, but many others are free.
Don’t forget the obvious: host a backyard barbecue (or crash someone else’s); grab a picnic basket, beach chairs, and umbrella and head for the beach; laze around with good books, fun DVDs, fine wine, and friends or a significant other.
Hamburgers,...

It’s about 22 degrees Celcium in St. Petersburg right now, and it is going to be so in the nearest future, I mean the first decade of May. I want to give you some information on work and off days in Russia in early May since it is different from the rest of the world.
On the 1st of May when you are likely to be working in office, people here will have their holidays. The tradition dates back to the Soviet and pre-Soviet times when people marked this day as a day of the fight of workers for...
