As pArt of my time spent in Seattle over New Year’s, I took the monorail to the Seattle Center and caught a few exhibits and an IMAX film at the Pacific Science Center. One of the great things about being a Pacific Science member (I’m a gold level member), is the ability to pop in for a short period of time. You don’t have to spend all day, just come see what you want and leave. And, depending on your membership level, a number of IMAX admissions are included.
While Avatar was clearly...

Edinburgh’s Best Off Beat Art Galleries

This past weekend, I spent the days exploring some of Edinburgh’s more off beat but fabulous Art galleries. There is truly a wonderful counter-culture here, fuelled by the influx of talent from the Edinburgh Festival but sustained by Edinburgh’s charm and romance. Who wouldn’t be inspired to create great brilliant Art seeing the Edinburgh Castle atop the hill, or watching the sun set on our glorious Georgian architecture?
Regardless, if you’re a visit and want to checkout...

Looking Through the Eyes of a Muse | Pattie Boyd’s Photography Comes to Sydney
Warning: strpos() [function.strpos]: Offset not contained in string. in /var/www/blog/wp-content/themes/ISOMagazine/functions.php on line 317
On Saturday my dad and I ventured into the city to check out the latest exhibition at the Blender Gallery. This Paddington Art space is definitely one of the city’s tiniest, but its world class exhibitions always make it interesting to check out.
I tend to find myself lured back whenever there’s something with a musical bent. You might remember me seeing the Henry Diltz exhibition last year. This time around I was tempted by Pattie Boyd’s display, Through the Eyes of a Muse. You may know her...

Fans of architecture, cities, urban history, and Art already know about the changing landscape in Tacoma, It’s come a long ways from the one time mill town, and has developed its commercial deep water port, has impressive universities, a revitalized downtown core, and is making inroads in urban residences. In short, Tacoma is growing up.
It would take all day to drive around the city and take in the developments, and even longer to dig out the history books and take a look at photos depicting...

Best Exhibition in Barcelona on Now: World Press Photo 2009
... and last Sunday a friend and I decided to take advantage of the freebie and go see the World Press Photo show at the central CCCB Museum.
The CCCB Art Museum in Barcelona. By Regina WInkle-Bryan
Honestly, being that the photos shown are from the press, I expected a lot of war shots. However, I was pleasantly surprised because the show was much more than war and destruction. On display were photos by Steve Winter of the elusive snow leopard, profile shots by Jerome Bonnet and photos of the Obamas...

Exposure, tone, cropping, and other manual techniques such as dodging and burning which reduced or added to the amount of light on pArts of the image during the development process, as well as using colored filters to change the contrast of the image were the limits of the photographer’s tools to impact their images.

“We are thrilled and honoured to be pArt of the exhibition that takes place in such a beautiful place on the coast in Sydney,” said Ryan James. “Barbara and I have enjoyed watching the public interacting with the Artwork. By 11 am on the first day, young children were...

It’s always nice to brag about our local residents, and in the list of prominent citizens, it would be hard not to find lots to brag about glass Artist Dale Chihuly.
Basket Quad Drawing by Dale Chihuly
Chihuly graduated from high school in Tacoma, and then from the University of Washington with a degree in interior design. He went on to receive a Master in Science in Sculpture, and was then a Fulbright Fellow studying glass in Venice, receiving a MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Ice Skating at DC’s National Gallery of Art

Sculpture by the Sea is currently delighting casual Art fans and boffins alike. This stunning sculpture, Where Is The Freedom?, is the work of Iranian Artist Mona Aghababaee. She won the Damon Courtenay Memorial Young Sculptor Prize for young sculptors, but ironically has been denied a visa to collect the $5000 prize money in person. Where is the freedom indeed!

Sydney Sees Snow at Museum of Contemporary Art

Who says Sydneysiders can’t walk in a winter wonderland? The Museum of Contemporary Art will get festive on Saturday, when its front lawn will become a real life snowscape.
The fun project is called Primavera 2009: Snowfield, and it’s the work of Sydney Artist Michaela Gleave. What a lovely break from the snooty and pretentious Art exhibitions we so often see! Michaela hopes her piece will encourage onlookers to reconsider their relationship with the natural environment, but I predict most...

Nothing in life is free, but in Barcelona on the first Sunday of each month free Art in the city breaks this golden rule.
Free Art in Barcelona. By Regina Winkle-Bryan
Not all the museums offer this, but a few good ones do, including MNAC and the CCCB. The MNAC is Catalunya’s national museum, and in my opinion, one of the city’s best. The CCCB is contemporary, and while I don’t love its exhibitions, I do love the many cultural programs it offers throughout the year.
The CCCB is...

Urban Wall Art: Find the Murals

Downtown on Davie and Denman Streets in the West End, you’ll find a few. In the downtown area, sometimes you’ll find them hidden in alleys in the most unsuspecting places.

I was invited to attend the opening of the exhibit, and had the chance to walk around looking at a display of over 200 bodies and specimens that were stripped to their muscle, bone, and sinew. The Donkey Mill Art Center, a non-profit charitable organization offering Art education for adults and youth, offers a lot of great Art classes year-round, but take a heavy toll on the wallet. Happily, the center has several events each year that are more suited to smaller budgets. The Fall Arts Festival, for instance, which will take place October 24 from 9 am – 3 pm, hopes to draw Big Island residents and visitors in an effort to raise local Art awareness.
The center is located near the Artist...
