Visiting the Olympic Pavilions Downtown
One of the major attractions during the 2010 Winter Olympics has been the free Olympic pavilions that offer a virtual visit (and sometimes a taste) of the world. Sometimes it has required patience to be admitted because of the long line-ups, but last night I lucked out and hardly had to wait at all other than for security checks.
First I headed down to Robson Street going east to Beatty Street. In spite of the rain there was a lively exhuberant crowd on the street going to the hockey game. ...

Olympic Pin Trading: A different kind of sport
... Streets are doing a brisk business. Crowds of adults and kids gather around swapping stories and trading pins they’ve collect during the 2010 Winter Olympics, or at other Olympic Games. Apparently pin-trading has become just as established a ‘sport’ during the Games as any other gold medal sport. It seems pin traders make a point of attending the Olympics just to indulge in their unusual ‘hobby’.
There are serious collectors, some of who have established themselves...

Jugglers, Comedy Acts, Musicians: It’s all part of the Olympic entertainment.

There are performers of all kinds putting on shows on the sidewalks and pedestrian malls wowing audiences with their balancing act, comedy and mime routines or to-tapping music. There’s a unicyclist on Robson Street near...

The Colours of the Olympics
Red, White, Blue and Orange have been the predominant colours of these 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Everywhere you look you’ll see a sea of folks wearing their national colours, and because these Games are Canada’s Games, there’s red and white wherever you look! The symbolic Maple Leaf accentuates the new style on scarves, toques and jackets as the Maple Leaf flag, emblem of Canada, flutters proudly in the breeze.
Of course, the Americans are here too, sporting their navy fleeces...

Dazzling Art in the Sky over Vancouver
Blazing sunsets and dazzling light shows have lit up the skies over Vancouver during the 2010 Winter Olympics. From Science World, a fiery sunset bathes all of False Creek with a bright tangerine glow, silhouettes on one side the Olympic Village, on the other side, the high-rises of Yaletown.
At Robson Square fireworks burst above the heads of the celebrating crowds and a laser light show flashes bright colours to light up the Square. This light show happens each night at 9.30 by the GE Ice...

Thrills, Triumphs and Tears: Going for Gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics
I never dreamed that I’d attend a Victory ceremony at the 2010 Winter Olympics, so when my friend invited me to go I was completely thrilled. The excitement built as we stood in the lineup for security, then passed though it (without too much of a wait!) into BC Place Stadium where the medal award ceremonies are held.
I can’t recall having been in the Stadium before and that in itself was a thrill. We collected our drinks and food (again, the lineups were very short) and found our...

Some of the Churches, such as First Baptist Church are offering a place to drop in for coffee too, at their Hobbit House, just around the corner from the Church.
Here’s a list of Churches...
