Peace Cafe: Vegan Dining in Honolulu
One of my new year’s resolutions this year is to learn more about vegan cooking. I will never be able to give up cheese — or wearing leather shoes, so I’ll never be able to be a full-fledged vegan, but I have been exploring some healthy places around town and fortuitously discovered my new favorite vegan cafe!
The Peace Cafe is an awesome lunch spot with salads, sandwiches, lunchboxes, sweets, and drinks that are not only well-priced but tasty as heck! On my first but certainly not last visit I had their “Body and Seoul” lunchbox with a baked apple cinnamon mochi cake for dessert. There is plenty of tasty vegan fare such as tempeh, tofu, and veggies.
The Cafe opened last May as a good healthy alternative to all the fast food eateries that are popping up around town. The atmosphere inside the quaint cafe is comfortable, classy and quiet. It just extended its hours, providing service both day and night (whereas previously it was only open during the day). On Friday evenings, diners get some acoustic entertainment from local musician Kelli Heath, whom I’ve seen perform at a local venue and absolutely LOVE! Catering is also available upon request.
Honolulu has long been a mixed bag when it comes to healthy eateries, so the Peace Cafe is a welcome change from the typically fatty plate lunch restaurants around town. I highly recommend this great little vegan spot.
