French Atmosphere at Mignon in Plano

You like French food so what about a French steakhouse in the heart of the Big D? Mignon combines American elegance with sophisticated French and better, the interior rings true of the spirit of Paris circa 1960 with that same fun and sophisticated ambiance.

Each season the Mignon menu changes to showcase seasonal offerings including appetizers, salads and entrees, but you can always expect broiled steaks and fresh seafood at this little retro jewel. Of course, French favorites like steak au poivre, stuffed shrimp with crab meat and prime filet come just as highly recommended, but stay tuned for the real specials the frites and cocktails.

Entrees range from $20 to $30 and prices vary depending on the seasonal menu changes.  Appetizers are under $10 (think about the Goat Cheese Gnocchi) and for dessert you can stay within the $10 range too with specialties like the Blackberry Crisp or the Triple Layer Lemon Cake.

As for the cocktails, happy hour drinks rule the day with Mignon touting a real European ambiance and finger food from 4-6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Serving wine, specialty martinis, beer and mixed house cocktails, all under $8 and that’s the non-happy hour prices, the mixed house cocktails include the classic Audrey Hepburn, made with raspberry vodka, raspberry liqueur and sweet and sour, as well as The Bellini-tini created with vodka, peach Schnapps, peach puree and champagne. The wine list offers more than 40 unique selections.

Parking is easy enough and reservations are not necessary, but if you are one of those folks who needs to “make sure” and request a certain table, no need to call more than a few days in advance.  While we’re talking French, it’s not the type of atmosphere where you wear shorts and a t-shirt, but leave the tie at home too. It’s a comfortable, but cool place to enjoy and in the nice weather the outdoor patio is an option you don’t want to ignore.

Come for drinks and stay for dinner or just mingle with the Mignon crowd for a few hours before heading home.
