Summer Time is the Right Time to Visit Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires during the summer-time is a treasure waiting to be discovered. Many of its more than fifteen million inhabitants part to the beaches and mountains.
Saying that the city is empty is too much, but certainly the urban feeling changes. It is as if the whole city submerges in a kind of lethargy, an intermediate time in which, for once, its frenetic pace softens a bit. Just then it is the best time to enjoy Buenos Aires in a more comfortable way.
Public transportation travelling becomes possible, and there are fewer people in museums, guided tours and theatres. Malls and shopping circuits relax after the sale frenzy of the holiday season, and even begin to show deals.
At last you can forget about calling for reservations and sit freely at any table that restaurants and bars accommodate on terraces, sidewalks and plazas. Now is the time to enjoy one of the best rituals Buenos Aires offers: long sobremesas (after-dinner conversations) under the shade of trees.
Also, you can spend the night with friends taking fresh in the sidewalks of Palermo or San Telmo. The ice cream parlors, another institution of Buenos Aires, become the meeting point of each neighborhood.
As a healthy tradition, the city offers free outdoor shows featuring music, theatre and cinema under the light of the stars. During the day, parks and green spaces are the alternative to asphalt. The city beaches are a new feature to the city, and there is a swimming pool close by ready to cool you down.
Northwards, the banks of the river lead you to Tigre, the start of the delta, where water sports are the escape from the city.
And if the heat becomes unbearable, there is always the last resort of Buenos Aires: get into a movie theatre with air conditioning until the sun goes down.
