Vietnamese Food Meets Thai Cuisine at Sydney’s Ms. G’s
A meeting of Asian cultures produces some stunning culinary results at the new Potts Point eatery, Ms. G’s. Vietnamese chef Dan Hong and his Taiwanese partner in crime Jowett Yu bring their own cultural influences to the table, creating fusion cuisine that’s exciting and delicious.
The cheekily named restaurant gives a nod to the controversial food additive used in many Chinese dishes in the 1980s. You’ll find none of it here though, as Ms. G’s prides itself on meals created with fresh produce. In fact, many of its specialties are made with vegetables grown in the garden outside. It doesn’t get much fresher than that!
The restaurant is quickly earning a reputation for its fried baby chicken with kimchi mayonnaise and mini banh mi made with crispy pork belly or chicken katsu. Make sure you save room for dessert though. The splice pine-line granite with lychee sorbet and whipped cream sounds perfect for summer, although it sounds like the pandan chiffon cheesecake with strawberries and coconut sorbet is also pretty hard to resist.
There’s a refreshing lack of Sydney pretention at Ms. G’s too. Diners share meals at communal tables, chattering away and making new friends. That kind of experience might not be to everyone’s tastes, but it does make a night out at Ms. G’s something special.
Ms. G’s made the gutsy move of opening its doors earlier this month, at a time when most of us are probably hurting from Christmas. However with Ms G’s affordable prices, a meal here won’t break your budget.
