No Fail Date Night Spot: Beacon Hill Bistro
When it come to romance, you really can’t beat the French. Cozy Beacon Hill Bistro (25 Charles St.) (map) with its handsome dining room, spacious brown leather booths, tables dressed in white linen and hearty yet chic fare brings a little bit of Paris to Boston’s Beacon Hill neighborhood.
It’s a lively setting for Chef Matt Malloy’s innovative menu which merges New England ingredients with French bistro cuisine. Everything is skillfully prepared- from the house made charcuterie ($14) to the cauliflower and leek soup ($8). The seared scallops with native lobster, bacon, corn and potato ragout ($29) is salty, buttery perfection and showcases well New England’s delicacies. The hand-cut tagliatelle with braised chicken, mushrooms, kale and gremolata ($24) is a marvel. The large bowl of pasta has a rustic effect and the shredded chicken is cooked to perfect tenderness and moistness. Bistro classics like steak frites with herb butter ($29) and duck breast with herbes de Provence ($28) are here too; satisfying and flavorful. The well-chosen wine list features mostly French vintages. The knowledgeable servers can offer you great recommendations.
The desserts, including the butterscotch creme brulee ($8.50) and the chocolate mousse tarte ($8.50) are luscious and worth saving room for. Beacon Hill Bistro is the restaurant for the adjacent Beacon Hill Hotel and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as a weekend brunch. Do make reservations for weekend evenings though- Beacon Hill Bistro offers a dining experience that you will remember fondly after returning home.
