Countdown to TRON: Legacy

To say that the December 17, 2011 nationwide theater release of the newest Disney Studios film, TRON: Legacy, has been highly anticipated, might be the biggest understatement of the year. 

After all, a monorail at Walt Disney World Resort (map) has been blazed with the image of the yellow and blue light cycle since last spring.  A view of the TRON universe zipping high above the heads of theme park guests has been a reminder since March of the upcoming release.  A sequel to the sci-fi classic TRON, TRON: Legacy also stars  Jeff Bridges in a reprise of his 1982 role.

Fun-loving guests at Disney’s California Adventure Park (map), have been enjoying ElecTRONica held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights all through the fall.  Featuring music and dance, fun food and glowing drinks all in the computer world environment of TRON, the nighttime party has celebrated the upcoming release.

The fun begins at 6:00 pm in Sunshine Plaza as a high energy dance show welcomes guests and prepares them to enter the world of TRON.  Passing through the ElecTRONica archway onto a computerized color screen street, guests feel as if they have been digitized and entered the computer mainframe.

A DJ keeps the party atmosphere going, beckoning guests of all ages to have fun while costumed dancers portraying “Sirens” and “Programs” from the movie perform.  Guests should keep an eye out for Laserman,  sharing music and amazing lasers and lights.

How about this for interaction? A recreation of Flynn’s Video Arcade, a key location in the film, allows guests to aim for high scores while playing 1980′s arcade games as well as test their skill with the yet to be released “TRON: Evolution” game.

ElecTRONica will be held nightly December 17 through January 2 and is expected to continue its weekend night schedule for fun through late April, 2011.

So what is all this excitement about a movie?  Unlike anything ever captured on the big screen, TRON: Legacy is a 3-D high-tech adventure that follows a 27-year old Sam Flynn who has been haunted by the unexplained disappearance of his father, a renowned video-game developer, twenty years before.  When Flynn investigates a signal sent from the old arcade, father and son are reunited in a life or death adventure in the cyber universe.

Science fiction fans have had this release date circled on their calendars since the announcement that the film was in production.  Folks, its time to start popping that popcorn as December 17th is almost here!
