Christmas with the Arts in Houston

One of the my favorite things to do during the holiday season is to treat myself to a show. Whether musical, theater or dance, Christmas brings special productions to the stage that I can only see this time of year. Houston is hosting several excellent productions during this holiday season.

“The Nutcracker” at the Houston Ballet

The Nutcracker is the Christmas show to see. The music of Tchaikovsky provides the backdrop to this story of toys come to life. The Houston Ballet will be performing The Nutcracker from now through December 26th and tickets are available online. Ticket prices range from $27-$105. Performed at the Brown Theater at the Wortham Theater Center, 501 Texas Ave. (map).

“The Grinch That Stole Christmas” at the Hobby Center

Theater Under the Stars (TUTS) is producing this Dr. Seuss favorite with performances through December 5th. Ticket prices range from $24-$99 and they are available for purchase online. The show is performed at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts at 800 Bagby St., Suite 200 (map).

Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at the Alley Theatre

What Christmas season is complete without this Dickens classic? “A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas” should be seen as well as read. The Alley Theatre production runs now through December 27th at the Alley Theatre, 615 Texas St. (map). Tickets are available online and range from $25-$100. No children under 5 years of age.

Handel’s Messiah Rocks at the Society for the Performing Arts

Tickets are still available for the one-night-only showing of “Handel’s Messiah Rocks: A Joyful Noise” at Jones Hall on Wednesday December 1st at 7:30 PM. With an orchestra, a rock band, local choirs, and special featured soloists Handel’s “Messiah Rocks” promises (and delivers) an exceptional musical experience. Tickets for “Messiah Rocks” are available online, with prices ranging from $24-$64. Jones Hall is located at 615 Louisiana St. (map).
