A Fresh Catch in Auckland, New Zealand.
Is Seafood your thing? Then Auckland is the place for you!
The Auckland Fish Market is Auckland’s only seven-day fresh food market. It’s a clever concept that brings Auckland’s freshest produce together on the one site.
As well as a huge range of popular seafood such as snapper, tarakihi, gurnard, crayfish and mussels, seafood retailers also stock a wide range of lesser-known (but equally) delicious species.
The market is not just about seafood: it also sells ultra-fresh fish, fruit, veges, delicatessen goods and premium-grade meat, and offers a selection of cafes and restaurants.
There are three things in particular I love about the market:
- It has a Seafood School! – The Auckland Seafood School is New Zealand’s only dedicated seafood cook school also provides guests with hands-on experience. With more than 100 classes a year, there’s something for everyone! Click here for more info.
- It has a free bus so you don’t even need to worry about parking! From 7am – 7pm, 7 days a week the free AFM shuttle does a circuit every hour around the centre of Auckland. The bus leaves the Fish market every hour.
- Auckland Fish Market runs New Zealand’s only seafood Dutch auction. Although only approved suppliers and registered buyers may participate in the auction, members of the public are more than welcome to come along for a look. Wake up for the day with an espresso coffee when the doors open for pre-auction viewing at 0530 hours, with the auction getting under way at 0600.
Whether it’s for stocking up for a week day dinner, a quick bite of lunch or dinner, or a leisurely weekend browse with the family, the Auckland Fish Market has something for everyone!
Stay tuned for another seafood surprise – the Auckland Seafood Festival coming up in January 2011!
