A Blend of Singapore and Japan at Kam’s Place

When it comes to dining out in Vancouver’s West End, there’s no end of choices to tempt your taste buds:  everything from fast foods to every type of ethnic restaurant you can think of.  I wanted something different for lunch,  so this day I chose dine at Kam’s Place Singaporean Cuisine, 1043 Davie Street, which offers Japanese and Singaporean Cuisine.

The lunch menu was reasonably priced, from $6.25 to $6.95 with a choice of chicken and beef dishes including soup and salad and sushi boxes for $6.95.  The ambiance was relaxing, with a touch of Japanese decor along with Singapore.  Pleasant young Asian servers efficiently waited on the booths and tables so it wasn’t long before my order arrived with a  small bowl of delicious, hot miso soup.

The sushi Bento box was a hearty serving combining sushi rolls, teriyaki beef, vegetable and shrimp tempura, rice and a colourful orange and greens salad with condiments of shaved ginger and zesty wasabi.  It was more than satisfying for a noon-time meal.

The restaurant is located on Davie Street, just a half block west of Burrard.  It’s a popular dining place for West End folks.  According to the reviews I googled, it is under new management.  Kam’s Place doesn’t have it’s own web site listed,  but you can read an excellent review of the menu here I found my meal satisfactory and certainly ample for the price.  Kam’s Place also offers a dinner menu to $10.00 so it is definitely an affordable place to dine out.

To get there by Public Transit take the #22 McDonald bus on Burrard Street (to Davie) or the #6 Davie Street bus.   There is parking in the area.  The restaurant is wheelchair accessible.
