Jacarandá Fever in Buenos Aires
Springtime is here. It is Jacarandá season. There is a riot of Jacarandá flowers in Buenos Aires. The Jacarandá trees adorn the avenues. Those inside the car peep out to see the trees. Those hurrying for work, slow down after seeing the flowers. Those sipping cafe in the outdoor cafes sit longer letting their imagination soar in the sky.
They are all over the city, making this time of the year a special one to admire these beautiful trees. Some of the most beautiful specimens can be admired in Plaza San Martín (map), the Botanical Garden (map), along Avenida Figueroa Alcorta (map), Plaza Italia (map), Plaza Alemania (map).
The first specimen of Jacarandá, a tree original from the North-West of Argentina, was planted in Buenos Aires in 1875 with the inauguration of the Parque 3 de Febrero at the Palermo Woods, and it was then spread all over the city for its ornamental value in the different plantation programs.
Those of you who visit Buenos Aires in November will be lucky to witness this beautiful natural spectacle. For those who can´t visit, here are some pics…
