Free Admission, Stunning Views, and Inclusive of Bringing Back Biodiversity?

Yes, you can actually have it all! Through the initiative between Conservation Volunteers New Zealand and the Auckland City Council, “Discover Our Auckland Parks” in Mt. Eden is geared at helping bring biodiversity back to our central parks and to give people who are interested in conservation a chance to get involved.

Enjoy the stunning views of our parks and at the same time, help in the conservation efforts and making a difference for our environment. A good way to have a healthy dose of sunshine and exercise, this programme is free and anyone can join from fledging new greenies to students on school holidays.

The projects are varied and range from potting up flax and laying out pest control stations at different sites around Mt Eden, planting to restore the health of the Whau River, installing wind protection around new seedlings and laying mulch at Waiatarua Reserve to planting native seedlings alongside Oakley Creek. Well, in between, enjoying the park, taking pictures, and enjoying the company of people who have the same love of the environment and stunning views as much as you do.

This programme runs every Tuesday from 24 August 2010 until 09 November 2010.

Interested volunteers are encouraged to call Fiona at Conservation Volunteers New Zealand on 0800 56 76 86 or email info@conservationvolunteers.co.nz.  Volunteers  meet at 8am at the Conservation Volunteers office in Mt Eden where they will then be transported to the week’s chosen park. Gloves and all tools are provided, just bring your lunch, a raincoat, sturdy footwear, and a heart willing to help the environment and we are all set for a good adventure!
