Weekend Getaway to Mexico Beach, Florida

“It’s (Mexico Beach) a great destination for everyone,” says Kimberly Shoaf, president of Mexico Beach (Fla.) Community Development Council “While our beach can be quiet and relaxing, there’s also all sorts of activities related to the water as well.”

From fishing to diving to exploring Crooked Island, there is never a loss of things to do here.

Shoaf describes the area as a small community, complete three-and-a-half miles of beachfront overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, located not too far from Panama City Beach. Yet, it’s far enough away for Mexico Beach to have established its own style and personality.

“There are no major chains here. We have unique shops, restaurants; and of course, the beach and beautiful white sand.”

And if all of the above isn’t reason enough to visit soon, there’s the 12th annual Mexico Beach Art & Wine Festival ($10/person) slated for Saturday, October 16. Taking place at Driftwood Inn (map), the event features a live auction, live music entertainment, food from local restaurants, and an artists market.

“The art and wine festival is always held in October,” says Shoaf. “It’s the perfect way to enjoy the beach with the sunset, which is always pretty in the fall, nice weather and live music in the background. It’s a fun atmosphere.”
