Scottsdale Welcomes the Charm of Napa

coffee, specialty foods, wineOn my first trip to Napa, I stopped off at a small grocery store on the way to a popular vineyard to pick up fresh bread, cheese, fruit and any other goodies to complement the wine of the area.  What I found was a wonderland of unique cheeses, charcuterie, hearty main dishes and sweets.

The Oakville Grocery originated in the heart of the Napa Valley in 1881.  They’ve brought their charm of a little country store to North Scottsdale and opened Oakville Grocery at the new Scottsdale Quarter.

A new concept to The Valley, Oakville Grocery brings sophisticated food and wine to self-proclaimed foodies.  Oakville features everything you would want for a casual picnic to a full four course meal.  Choose from a wide range of imported and domestic specialty foods, cheeses, gourmet sandwiches, fire-baked oven pizzas, chef-prepared entrées and salads, charcuterie, fresh meats, baked breads, espresso and coffee drinks, fresh juice bar, specialty chocolates, organic produce, and a large selection of unique wines and beer.

Specialty goodies at Oakville Grocery make great hostess gifts.

It’s a great spot to pick up lunch with your choice of sandwiches like the smoked turkey with cranberry relish, cream cheese on sourdough bread ($7.99) and a tri-tip steak with blue cheese, caramelized onions on a baguette ($8.99).  You can also choose from roasted pizzas with red or white sauce ($9.99 to $12.99), salads and soups that change daily like the spicy tortilla with cojita cheese and avocado or the potato and leek with chives and bacon.

If you’re like me and need a night off from the kitchen, Oakville has an amazing selection of entrees that you’re family will love.  The menu changes daily, but my favorites are the pistachio crusted beef tenderloin and the stuffed chicken breast with figs, pine nuts and spinach.  And while you’re there, choose great sides like potatoes, rice dishes and vegetables to complete your meal.

To start off your day on the right foot or at least with a full tummy, Oakville opens up at 7am with great choices including waffles, pastries and omelettes.  There’s nothing like relaxing on their outdoor patio with an espresso or coffee drink.

Great outdoor seating for breakfast or lunch.

I’d also recommend them for catering your next special event.  Once again, from simple to downright fabulous, they can provide cheese platters, box lunches, dessert platters and skewered meat including chicken satay, shrimp and flank steak with lime-ginger soy.  Check out their menu to see if they can make your next birthday or graduation party a success.

If you’re a wine snob or aspire to be one, stop by on Thursday nights from 6-8pm for wine classes and tastings.  All kidding aside, these weekly classes provide good insight into buying the best wine for your palate.

Stop in to get the full affect of all their wonderful food or check out their online Gourmet Grocery store which is coming soon.  Either way, Oakville Grocery is a food lovers paradise.
