Follow in Hendrix’s Footsteps

The current style in hotels is cool and minimalist. But if it’s psychedelia you want, the Jimi Hendrix suite at the Cumberland delivers the vibe.

The Cumberland was Hendrix’s home from home – for conducting his numerous love affairs, but also as a sanctuary from the pressures of his celebrity.  Now the hotel has opened a Jimi Hendrix suite on the fifth floor, decorated in flower-power Sixties style.

Zebra skin and bright purple and yellow paint, huge murals  and a massive plasma screen, the room takes all the vibrant psychedlia of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and adds a dose of modern comfort and technology. It’s quite amazing – and I think a little bit unsettling, too.

A stay in the Hendrix suite costs £399 – including breakfast and, in a nice Hendrix-style touch, a bottle of Scotch. (However it doesn’t include any hallucinogenic drugs.)
