Head East to Spokane for South Pacific

South Pacific, winner of a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 10 Tony Awards, is making its way to Spokane for a brief run as part of the Best of Broadway Spokane lineup.  The musical is based on James Michener’s novel, Tales of the South Pacific, and has been considered one of the greatest Broadway musicals, weaving sensational music and lyrics with its exploration of war and racial prejudice in the plot.

Spokane Riverfront Park The 2008 revival of South Pacific was just as big of a hit, winning 7 Tony Awards, and features the largest orchestra of any touring Broadway production.  You may remember some of the tunes made famous by the musical:  Bali Hai, Some Enchanted Evening, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair, and There’s Nothing Like a Dame.

If South Pacific doesn’t float your boat (okay, bad pun, I know), there are other productions offered that may.  Other productions coming up include:

  • Liza Minelli – October 15th
  • Capitol Steps – October 27th
  • Stomp – November 5-6th
  • Spring Awakening – January 19th, 2011
  • Legally Blonde – February 10-13th, 2011
  • 9 to 5 – March 24-27th, 2011
  • Cats – April 23rd – 24th, 2011
  • Wicked – May 18-29th, 2011

Location:  INB Performing Arts Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. (map)

Dates & Times:  October 6-9th, 2010

Tickets: Ticket prices vary, based on location and date.  Balcony seats start at $35 and premium seats at $65.  Tickets are available for purchase online.

Special Packages:  Red Lion Hotel at the Park (map)  is offering Broadway Packages for two that include deluxe accommodations, two tickets to the show, their Roaring Start breakfast buffet, and transportation to the INB Performing Arts Center.  Prices start at $236.86, representing a good value and a great night of fun.

If you haven’t been to Spokane recently, you’re really missing out.  They have lots of great restaurants, martini and wine bars, and plenty of fun nightlife.  A weekend of theater and food may be worth heading east.  I’ll be attending opening night of South Pacific and am looking forward to discovering even more about what the city has to offer.
