Saris of India
The Association of Corporations and Apex Societies of Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, and the Government of India has organized a Sari exhibition and sale. They’ll be sari from all over India on show. Many of the styles in the exhibition are usually not available in most Delhi shops; hence this exhibition might just be worth a visit. If you are into wearing and collection sari, head over to this unique exhibition on at the Bhikaji Cama Place.
About Various Saris in India
The term Sari is derived from a Sanskrit term that means “strip of cloth”. Quite literally, a sari is nothing more than a strip of cloth worn around a female’s body. The sari dates back to the Indus Valley Civilization, which was about 3000 BC. Saris are worn all over India. The key difference in the various types of saris is the print and embroidery work on them, the type of cloth, and the draping style. The type of sari is usually named after its origin. For example, a sari from Banaras in Uttar Pradesh is called Banarasi. Sometimes it can be named after a type of cloth found in a particular region. For example, Mooga Silk saris are from the North Eastern state of Assam. There are over forty types of sarees and I would not be able to do justice to them in this post. So, you might as well head of to the exhibhition and learn about and buy Indian saris!
