September in the South
Summer may be gone, but the fun isn’t in the South. 
In fact, some may say the fun is just getting started. And if you don’t believe that, just check out some of the things you can do this Labor Day weekend.
If you’re looking for ways to stay busy this month in the region, you won’t be disappointed.
It’s September in the South, so why don’t you…
- attend an event (or two): It’s all about having a good time at Riverfest in Decatur, Ala., September 18-19. 19th annual Summer’s End Art Showin Scottsville, Ky., September 18. Tennessee Williams Tribute Weekend and Victorian Home Tour in Columbus, Miss., September 5-12. 19th annual Hot Springs (Ark.) Jazzfest, September 14-19.
- enjoy some food: Grab a fork and napkins, and be sure to bring your appetite, because there’s some good food to be eaten this month in the South. Downtown Washington (Mo.) Chili Cook-Off, September 24. National Hook N’ Cook-Off at Pelican Landing in Ketchum, Okla., September 25. Houston Hot Sauce Festival, September 18-19. 29th annual Biloxi (Miss.) Seafood Festival, September 11-12. Destin (Fla.) Seafood Festival, September 17-19. Conchtoberfest in Marathon, Fla., September 13-19. Jekyll Island Shrimp & Grits Festival, September 17-19. And it’s also Orlando’s Magical Dining Monthas well. If you’re adventurous, why not creative your own culinary experience in Charleston, S.C. or along Mississippi’s Culinary Trail.
- get active, get outdoors: Tour Memphis, Tenn. on the run. Go ziplining at Florida EcoSafaris at Forever Florida (map) in St. Cloud, try YOLO boarding at the Beaches of South Walton (Florida panhandle), or challenge yourself on Adventure Mountain at Dollywood (map) in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
- overnight it: Indulge in some deep relxation at One Ocean Resort (map) in Atlantic Beach, Fla., Port Inn (map) in Port St. Joe, Fla., The King and Prince (map) in St. Simons Island, Ga., Terrace Hotel (map) in Lakeland, Fla., or Walden Plantation (map) in Llano, Texas.
- go somewhere for the weekend: Pack an overnight and head to places like Oxford, Miss., the mountains of Northeast Alabama, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Cherokee, N.C., or Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
