Don’t Miss the 1st Taco and Mariachi Festival

When you come to Mexico City there are two things you absolutely must do – sample the street food, especially the tacos, and check out the mariachi bands in Plaza Garibaldi. Fortunately, if you’re going to be in town next week you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy both at the 1st Taco and Mariachi Festival (Primer Festival del Taco y del Mariachi) taking place all week long in Plaza Garibaldi.

Festival del Taco y del Mariachi in Plaza Garibaldi

The Taco and Mariachi Festival begins this Friday September 3rd and continues through Sunday September 12th. It’s just one of many events planned to coincide with the upcoming bicentennial celebrations. The festival will feature art and cultural events, plenty of delicious street food, tacos and of course, live mariachi music. In addition to some of the best local bands there will be groups from Colombia, Peru and the U.S. More than 40,000 people are expected to attend the event.  The festival runs daily from 9am-9pm and there’s no doubt it’ll be a great time. If you go be sure to stop by the popular Salón Tenampa located on the north end of the square for drinks and entertainment later on in the evening.
