Flute Music of India

The Krishnaprerna society has organized an Indian flute festival, called Raasrang World Flute Festival, to promote the flute music of India. The event is going to held in multiple locations across Delhi and will be spread over five days. The best of local and international flautist will be present and playing their mesmerizing tunes. Flute music of India is usually associated with spiritual music. Consequently, many of the performers have released devotional music albums.

Some of the performers are:  Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Steve Gorn, Bikramjit Singh, Rajat Prasanna, Pandit Raghunath Seth. If you haven’t of these artists, here’s a little about Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia and Steve Gorn:

  • Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia: Indian flute music of India’s most celebrated flautist. Has also composed music for Bollywood films.
  • Steve Gorn: Born in New York, plays a Bomboo Flute and the Saxophone. He has been praised by critics and leading Indian musicians as one of the few westerners recognized to have captured the subtlety and beauty of flute music of India.

As the flute is very often associated with devotional music, the Lotus Temple plays host to the Raasrang World Flute Festival on two occasions.

Fri. 27 August 2010:

Rajat Prasanna plays at the Lotus Temple between 7-8 p.m.

Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia plays at the Lotus Temple between 8-9 p.m.

Sat. 28 August 2010:

Steve Gorn , Abhay Phagre, Pt. Ragunath Seth play at the Lotus Temple between 7-9 p.m.

Mon. 30 August 2010:

Steve Gorn plays at the India Habitat Centre between 7-9 p.m.

Tues. 31 August 2010:

Multiple artists from Sri Lanka, Rajasthan, and Bangladesh play at the India Habitat Centre between 7-9 p.m.
