Half off “Return to Waikiki” tickets!
Slack-key legend Makana–just coming off of a successful stint from the “Curators of Hawaiian Music” series at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel– brings the Waikiki lu’au back to its roots. His “Return to Waikiki” lu’au both entertains and educates by tracing out the history of Hawaiian music from its beginnings in chant and hula all the way through to today’s popular local hits.
If you’ve ever stopped to wonder about things like why slack-key guitarists play in a slack key, why the ukulele became such a popular musical instrument in the islands, or why so many local musicians use falsetto, then this is the show for you. (And if you’re still craving that umbrella drink, we’re sure one of the bartenders will make one for you!)
“Return to Waikiki” will not only teach you more about the rich history and culture of our islands — it will also bring you a truly one-of-a-kind performance by the man Esquire magazine has called the “greatest living player” of slack key music today.
Return to Waikiki celebrates and honors the past as a living part of Hawaii today. Many people cooperated to create the atmosphere and entertainment, which incorporates vaudevillian elements along with traditional and contemporary music and dance.
Return to Waikiki is happening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Dinner and show tickets range from $95 to $125 per person. Children 4-11 are $55 and children 3 and under are free.
Return to Waikiki tells the story of how Hawaiian music came to be. Although MAKANA is the principle performer, he puts Hawaiian music itself front and center as the star of this new show. The event is called a luau, but it is in the style of the grand luaus and entertainment of the 1940s and 1950s. The evening evokes the sophistication of the past and is firmly grounded in Hawaii. This sense of place is vital to MAKANA.
This is really too good of a show to pass up. For a limited time only, PLAY is bringing you a standard seat ticket to the lu’au (a $75 value) for only $37. As an added bonus, if you reserve tickets for the August 28, 29 or September 3, 4, or 5 shows they’ll upgrade you to VIP seats for free (a $125 value).
Grab this deal now and return to Waikiki for an entertainment experience that you can only find in Hawai’i. These special priced tickets only last for another three days!
