Stephi’s On Tremont-A New Neighborhood Favorite
Stephi’s on Tremont the sister restaurant of the much-loved Stephanie’s on Newbury Street. Opened just last year in a prime South End location, Stephie’s has become a hit- attracting a sophisticated crowd- an interesting mix of the neighborhood’s coolest residents, couples on dates, and locals already familiar with owner Stephanie Sokolve’s cuisine.
This is comfort food with enough edge to pique your interest- and not terribly expensive either. Stephie’s takes the humble cod and makes it interesting again- lemony pan-roasted cod loin is served over corn and bacon chowder with perfectly roasted potatoes ($24). The lobster macaroni with three cheeses ($16) is decadently creamy and rich and is blanketed with buttery bread crumbs. The crispy rock shrimp, with avocado, fresh corn and lettuce with a caramelized onion vinaigrette makes a lovely small lunch. Desserts are all house made. Have at least one person at your table order the brownie bread pudding. It gets the total treatment and is served with hot fudge, creme anglais and ice cream .
Some extraordinary detail has been considered in the design of the dining space. It has an air of casual refinement with dark wood floors, leather banquettes, and varied lighting throughout. In warm weather, there is a lively outdoor patio.
