Japanese Animation Film Festival
The Japanese are known for small gadgets, computer games, automobiles, and animation. This weekend there is a Japanese Animation film festival. Here are my favorite movies from the lot:
The Place Promised in Our Early Days (90 minutes, directed by Makoto Shinkai)
Genre: Drama, Action, Romance, and Science Fiction
This movie has received many awards, including the Special Distinction (Feature Film category) – Seoul Comics and Animation Festival 2005 and Best Animated Film – Mainichi Film Awards 2004.
Graves of the Fire Flies (88 minutes, directed by Isao Takahata)
Genre: War
Roger Ebert from the Chicago Sun Times, considers this movie to be one of the most powerful anti-war movies ever made and Ernest Rister compared it to Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List. Judge for yourself.
