Tibet Art Exhibition by Tibetans in Exile
The Dalai Lama resides in Dharamshala, India. Consequently, India is home to probably most Tibetans in exile than anywhere else. Delhi has a Tibetan refugee colony near ISBT, which also houses a wonderful monastery. Now, let me not deviate from the topic. This post is about the Tibetan art and a “must attend” painting exhibition by contemporary Tibetan artists. The exhibition is called the Starving Artists.
About Starving Artists
This painting exhibition is hosted by the Peak Art Gallery, which is based in Mcleodganj, Dharamshala. There are showcasing the works of eight Tibetan artists who are living in the refugee settlements. The Tibetan art is created over various mediums, such as oil water colour and mixed medium. Each of the pieces have unique interpretation of refugee life. For example, Dr. Dawa (former director of the Tibetan Medical Institute) paints landscapes, while Lobsang Dorjee reflects on the Dalai Lama and climate change. The sheer varieties of interpretations make this exhibition quite a unique and colorful display of Tibetan refugee thoughts through Tibetan art.
