In(n) for the Night at Port Inn

Port Inn (map) in Port St. Joe, Florida couldn’t be in a better location. Situated across the street from St. Joseph Bay and Frank Pate Park, the first thing you might be tempted to do after you check-in (or even before) is to check out the view.

In a place that has been basically left untouched by large development for the most part (you’ll find the conveniences of a grocery store, drug stores, restaurants and such, but no large condos in Port St. Joe), the 21-room inn seamlessly blends in with the small coastal town and evokes images of the bygone Florida era when train travel was popular.

This is good, because you come here to relax and reconnect; unless you’re like me and have a need an Internet connection (more on that later.)

The rooms are nice, each one a little different from the other. Suites are available, which can be great for family travel or those who need the additional space. Some added touches include two bathrobes, complimentary bottle waters and black out curtains for those who want to enjoy some deep sleep.

For the business traveler, there’s the aforementioned Internet, which is complimentary and either wireless or high-speed access, depending on the room. There’s also a small conference room available, as well as other services if needed.

You definitely don’t want to miss the complimentary breakfast ($5 for non-guests) from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. in the Florida Room that includes an omelet station. If the weather is good, there’s outside patio seating so you can enjoy the view.

Then there’s the Thirsty Goat Lounge, a great place to stop in before or after dinner. It’s somewhere that you have to visit yourself to truly understand. Be sure to view the monthly calendar (PDF file) so you are in the know about upcoming live music entertainment and/or drink specials.

You’ll also find at Port Inn a heated pool for your enjoyment as well as complimentary bike rentals. These bikes are great for exploring nearby downtown or the town in general, including riding out about a mile to the Constitution Convention Museum State Park (map).

For an authentic Port St. Joe vacation with a little old Florida charm thrown in, make  reservations at Port Inn.

Before you go, be sure to take a look at their current specials for savings and fun in the area.
