Delhi has the Most Expensive Retail Space in India

We all know the vast variety of shopping experiences Delhi has to offer. From traditional 200 year old bazaars to ultra-modern malls, Delhi is concussion of old and new. Each of these types of shopping experiences attracts a certain type of crowd and is known to specialize in specific items.

Markets in Delhi

Most Expensive Retail Space in Delhi

This rich shopping heritage leads me to write about the four most expensive retail in space in India and, believe it of not, they are all located in Delhi! It’s true, Delhi has the 16th most expensive retail space in the world and tops India by quite a bit. Mumbai takes the number 2 spot.

So, the most expensive retail space in Delhi and therefore India is:

  • Khan Market: Surrounded by the Lodi Gardens, India Habitat Center, and other well known places-to-visit in Delhi, the Khan Market tops the list of having the most expensive retail space in India. This wonderful market is not very old, when compared to Connaught Place and Chandni Chowk. However, it does have some of the finest dining options in Delhi. While here, do try Khan Chacha’s kebabs, you just might meet a celebrity eating by your side. This market is mostly visited by expats and the hip and happening crowd of Delhi.
  • Connaught Place (CP): This is a market from the colonial days. The architecture is truly wonderful. CP is connected view the Delhi Metro (subway), hence commuting to if is not a challenge. The market bears resemblance to Piccadilly Circus and actually a restaurant called the Picca-dilli Circus. CP is known mainly for Restaurants and Bars, Shopping, and Theatre. To truly appreciate you’ll require about two days.
  • South Extension: Coming in at number 3 is this post independence market. It has two parts that split by the ring road. It has a large variety of showrooms and is easily accessible to other South Delhi markets, such as Defence Colony and Lajpat Nagar.
  • Greater Kailash: Lastly, there is another post independence market located with the residential colony of Greater Kailash. I wouldn’t recommend this place for shopping as there are far better markets in Delhi. However, if you are pub-hopping this is one place where you’ll find some mighty fine water-holes fairly close to each other.

Fortunately, none of these markets have modern malls.
