Nightlife on South William Street in Dublin
It isn’t hard to find a pub in Dublin, but what if you want a little dancing, and maybe a cocktail or two? For this type of night on the town, you have to know where to look. Dublin is full of traditional pubs that don’t require a dress code and pour a great pint of Guinness – and you don’t need a map to find them. For nightlife with a little more pulse, head straight for South William Street in Dublin City Center.
If you’re staying at a City Center hotel, South William Street will be a short stroll away. During the day it is a great place to shop, grab a coffee or lunch (I love Metro Cafe) or even get a haircut. But at night, when all of these shops and cafes are closed, another side to South William Street is revealed. When many pubs close down around midnight, the party continues at spots along this street. Here are a few of my favorites:
1. Pygmalion. There’s a lot to like about Pygmalion. You rarely have to wait long to order a drink because there are a few bars spread throughout the club. Making your way through the labyrinth interior is part of the fun, as you wander from room to room. Head straight for the room with the DJ to get in with the crowd for a little dancing, or take a seat in one of the booths in the rear lounge. This is a great spot for groups of friends.

2. The South William. What this place lacks in creativity for its name it makes up for in atmosphere. If you want crowded, hip, and dark this is the place for you. Split between a few levels there is always a new nook to explore as well as an outdoor area in the back. Cocktails are a specialty here, and the bar staff is known for their charm.

3. Dakota. For travelers who like their cocktails with a bit more space, set your sights on breezy Dakota. You won’t find a dark room for dancing here, but there’s lots of space to mingle and chat. If you’re having a hard time getting into some of the other spots, the Dakota usually has a bit more room.

There’s more to Dublin than just pints! Remember to pack along your dancing shoes.
