Say Goodbye To Summer

Now that it is August, it is time to plan all the things that you just “got to do” in Boston before Labor Day and the end of summer.

Hit the beach one last time. Massachusetts boasts some spectacular coastline. The top New England beach pick for all-around  fun? The 40- mile  Cape Cod National Seashore which stretches  from Eastham to Provincetown

Head to the islands-the Boston Harbor Islands -that is. Explore Georges Island, home to historic Fort Warren- an abandoned Civil War-era fort or visit Spectacle Island for swimming in the Boston Harbor. Getting there is half the fun- Boston Harbor Express Ferries leave from Long Wharf throughout the day for the 20-minute trip.

Get dizzy! Take a spin on the carousel at the Rose Kennedy Greenway (Map)

Take to the water. A canoe or kayak along the Charles River offers a different perspective of the city. Charles River Canoe and Kayak (Soldiers Field Road, near the Eliot Bridge)(Map) rents canoes and kayaks by the hour.

August is a great time to visit a pick-your-own farm. Time your visit right at Tougas Farm (234 Ball St., Northboro)(Map) and you can pick blueberries, peaches, raspberries and even early apples in the same visit.

Eat lots and lots of ice cream. Visit any of the Boston-area J.P. Licks (352 Newbury St., Boston)(Map) ice cream shops and order their peach ice cream- it tastes just like summer!
