Lunch in the Seaport District at 606 Congress
With star attractions like the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Children’s Museum bringing throngs of visitors, the Seaport District is one of Boston’s great neighborhood destinations. After a morning of museum hopping, stroll along Seaport Boulevard for a late lunch at smart and stylish 606 Congress in the Renaissance Hotel. Drawing as many locals as guests-always a good thing for a hotel restaurant- the kitchen is helmed by Chef Gregory Griffie. The cuisine at 606 Congress is New American and features lots of local seafood and relies heavily on seasonal ingredients, much of it grown from area farms.
You will lunch in a beautiful space. The dining room at 606 Congress is comfortably upscale and has an understated nautical theme with polished dark woods and fabrics done in aquatic blues and soft greens. The floor to ceiling windows create an inviting connection to pretty Maritime Park which is located across the street. You can also choose to dine al fresco on the patio where you can enjoy the tang of salt breezes while you eat.
This summer, 606 Congress is offering a fabulous lunch deal. For just $10, their Soup’d Lunch special includes your choice of soup and either a 1/2 sandwich (with chips) or a salad. The soup choices are especially creative versions of some classic dishes. Some of the selections are a sweet corn soup with roasted red pepper cream, a traditional New England Clam chowder, a velvety cauliflower soup with a balsamic reduction and a refreshing Middle East-inspired honey melon, cucumber soup served with mint yogurt. Salad options include the Laughing Bird Shrimp Salad with beautifully poached shrimp, avocado, roast tomatoes on a bed of white beans. Or pretend you are in Capri and order the open-faced olive oil poached tuna on grilled bread with arugula. Among the sandwich selections, the truffle egg salad with pancetta crisp is a retro taste brought up to date. Intrepid diners will love the pork belly BLT with garlic aioli.
606 Congress offers a full lunch menu too. Here, the Ahi Tuna Nicoise ($15) is very, very good. Be sure to leave room for dessert. The white chocolate bread pudding with caramel ($8) is moist, sweet and oh-so-satisfying. Or go for the seriously good malted chocolate milkshake made with Guinness ice cream ($8). Just in case you need a little more sustenance for your afternoon touring.
