Meet Me at the Market Bar in Dublin
After a long week of work, not only do I want something tasty at an affordable price and a refreshing drink, but I want some good atmosphere to come with it. I also want a place that is accommodating for groups, the type of place where a waiter won’t sigh in annoyance if someone else arrives to join for a drink, a bite, or even just to say hello. In the city centre of Dublin, this is the Market Bar. Original red brick walls and a warehouse interior provide the atmosphere, and a satisfying tapas menu provides the variety I crave.
The warm ambiance of Market Bar is completed by wooden benches and tables, tall plants, and soft lighting. When you first walk into the bar off Fade Street, it is almost impossible for your mood to not be instantly lifted. The pleasant buzz of conversations and gentle aromas from an open kitchen always greet me at the door. This gastro bar is especially great for groups with different appetites – as tapas come in two sizes: large or small. Whether you want to nibble on a few olives with a glass of wine or try a traditional Irish fish pie with a pint of Guinness, you’ll feel right at home at Market Bar.
Open seven days per week, Market Bar has a capacity of over 300 people. There is also free WI-FI in the bar, so if you’re looking for a place to have a long lunch and pack along your laptop, this is it. Another thing I love about this central spot is that no reservations are accepted. First come, first serve. Grab a table, peruse a menu, and enjoy the Mediterranean fare or traditional Irish items. Some of my favorites include the selection of cheese and Spanish cured meats or fish skewers with a sweet chili glaze.
Even if you aren’t in the market to eat, this is a great spot to begin your night on the town with a few drinks. The Spanish theme continues with fruit sangria and the red wine list has great variety from Argentina, Chile, and Spain. Half bottles of wine are also available. Despite all of this choice, odds are, you will see locals enjoying pints of Guinness.
