Kentucky Bourbon Trail
What do historic old towns, winding country roads, hills covered in thick green bluegrass and world-renowned Bourbon all have in common? They are all part of the experience known as the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
For more than 200 years, Kentucky distilleries have produced America’s true native beverage and have crafted the world’s finest Bourbons. In an effort to share this rich tradition and proud history, the Kentucky Distillers Association have formed a Trail that has united six of these prestigious distilleries to educate visitors by allowing tours of the facilities.
This Wild Turkey Bourbon tour is led by Master Distiller, Jimmy Russell. Russell has been with Wild Turkey Distillery, located in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, for over 55 years.
Lawrenceburg, Kentucky is also the home of Four Roses Bourbon. Built in 1910 the distillery is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.
At Maker’s Mark in Loretto, Kentucky (map) barrels wait the aging process. . .
. . . until the “dumping” of the barrel.
Known as the first family of Bourbon, the Beams are seventh generation distillers. A statue of Booker Noe, grandson of founder, Jacob Beam, sits proudly greeting visitors to Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, Kentucky.
Rounding out the Bourbon Trail is Heaven Hills and Woodford Reserve, the official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby.
A map indicates turn by turn directions and the distance between each distillery. Since guests are encouraged to take their time and enjoy the surroundings at each of the six host sites, a full two days is recommended. Hit the Trail and celebrate Kentucky’s signature spirit.
