Celebrate Vancouver Gay Pride

One of the most entertaining events during the summer in Vancouver is the annual Gay Pride Parade, Sunday August 1st. This event, which began several years ago as a small protest march through the Davie Village has become a world-class Pride Parade attracting not only supporters within the gay community of the city, but friends worldwide.  The parade will include 150 entries with colour floats, musical marching bands, community groups and streets filled with rainbow colours.

The parade spans 20 blocks and attracts an audience of over 600,000 people.  It’s fun for everyone, almost a circus atmosphere, but it sends an important message to the community as a premier celebration of culture and diversity.

The parade route starts in the heart of downtown Vancouver at Robson and Thurlow Street, then heads west  down to Denman Street, following Denman to Pacific and Beach Avenue, finishing at the Sunset Beach Festival site (map).

On Pride Day, come to The Boathouse, 1795 Beach Avenue, (map) for a breakfast buffet where you can watch the parade from one of the best locations along the route. (10:20 am -2.30 pm, Sunday August 1.)  Partial proceeds from the breakfast are donated back to the Pride Society.
