Free Concerts and Movies at Carter Barron Amphitheatre

Carter Barron Amphitheatre, in picturesque Washington DC’s Rock Creek Park, offers free summer music concerts, performing arts and movies all summer.  From dance to poetry to jazz and blues, the series has something for everyone, including a couple movies for the family.

The summer free concert schedule includes:

  • August 13 at 7:30 p.m.  – 8th Annual Metro DC Dances features Capitol Movement (CMI), Junior Company, Contradiction Dance, New School of Dance & Arts, Next Reflex Dance Collective plus additional performing guests.
  • August 14 at 7:30 p.m. – Culture Shock East Coast Dance Concert 2010 brings together selected amateur and collegiate dance teams from across the East Coast, competing in a full concert-format show.
  • GuitarAugust 15 at 7:30 p.m. – A night of jazz with the Joint Service Jazz Concert featuring the U.S. Army Blues, the U.S. Navy Commodores and the U.S. Airmen of Note
  • August 27 at 7:30 p.m. – It’s the 6th Annual DC Poetry in the Park featuring The Cornel West Theory, a musical phenomenon from a band of poets, preachers, intellectuals and artists, and The Last Poets, a group of poets and musicians focusing on the African American civil rights movement dating back to the 1960s.
  • August 28 at 7:30 p.m. – The Clint Eastwood bio drama Invictus (PG-13) about Nelson Mandela challenge to the South African rugby team to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup, staring stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon (free tickets required)
  • August 29 at 7:30 p.m. – The children’s computer-animated comedy film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (G), which is loosely based on the children’s book about an unsuccessful inventor’s latest invention, a machine that turns water into food. But after something goes wrong, the machine ends up in the sky, raining food down on on everyone.
  • September 4 at noon – The 22nd Annual DC Blues Festival brings Bryan Lee & the Blues Power Band, Diunna Greenleaf & the Blue Mercy Band, Cheryl Renee with  Them Bones Blues Band, Doug MacLeod and Big Boy Little Band to the stage for an afternoon of great blues.

Admission – Free, but movies require tickets which are distributed on the day of each performance at the Carter Barron Box Office starting at noon. Limit 4 tickets per adult.  Alcohol, cans or glass, coolers, picnic baskets and folding chairs are not allowed.

Nearest Metro Subway Station – Georgia Ave.- Pentworth – Green Line, then a 2–mile cab ride.

Parking – Free parking is available in the lot adjacent to the Amphitheatre.
