Sorry to state the obvious, but – wow – it is seriously hot and humid here in the Dallas -Fort Worth Metroplex. Thankfully, there are a bunch of fun things to do this weekend, all of which take place in air-conditioned comfort. Isn’t that a relief?

Musical Theater Galore I have always loved live theater, but now I also love the fact that in Texas, these events are always air-conditioned. Aaaaah, so lovely. In fact, it’s important to bring a sweater to these shows, because even with a full audience, it can get chilly by intermission.

  • Dreamgirls in Dallas ends this Sunday, so if you haven’t yet got your dream on, this is your last chance. This fantastic production of Dreamgirls has an absolutely stellar cast. I had goosebumps several times, and it was not from the air-conditioning! Dreamgirls is playing in the Music Hall at Fair Park, 909 1st Avenue, Dallas, TX 75210 (map) Check out my full review of Dreamgirls for more hyberbole and information.
  • It’s a bird… It’s a plane…It’s Superman! is still flying high at the Wyly Theatre, 2400 Flora Street, Dallas, TX (map) through July 25th. Rumors have it that this “revisal” of the original 1966 Broadway musical may be headed back to the Great White Way. Check out my enthusiastic review of It’s a bird…It’s a plane…It’s Superman! for more information.
  • Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is playing at the Winspear Opera House, 2403 Flora St. Dallas, TX (map) through July 25th. This stage adaptation of the classic fairy tale makes a great introduction to musical theater for kids. Read my full review of Beauty and the Beast for more information.
