3 Ways to Celebrate National Ice Cream Month in Dallas

Hand holding ice cream coneDid you know that July is National Ice Cream Month? If not, here’s the scoop: Back in 1984, President Ronald Reagan gave July this delightful distinction, and made the third Sunday of each July National Ice Cream Day, which makes July 18th the special day for 2010. Reagan’s proclamation also beckons citizens of the United States to celebrate National Ice Cream Month with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

While those of us living in or visiting the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex during this summer’s heat wave probably don’t need much encouragement to indulge in frozen treats, here are three appropriate activities in the DFW area so you may officially celebrate National Ice Cream Month this year.

Scoop for Success at Central 214
Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar Dallas and Central 214 restaurant are running a special Scoop for Success event during the entire month of July. Chef Blythe Beck has created two special ice cream desserts to celebrate, with $1 of each treat’s price going to the local chapter of Dress for Success in Dallas. The first of Chef Blythe’s Scoop for Success treats is a build-your-own ice cream sundae. Some assembly is required, but that’s what makes it so fun – all the fixings are brought to your table so you may design your own delectable masterpiece. For those over-21, Chef Beck offers a bourbon-glazed pecan cookie filled with peaches and cream ice cream. The Dress for Success program assists women who are reentering the work force, so cancel any guilt you may feel for indulging by knowing that you are contributing to a worthy cause.
