A Disney Fourth Close to Home
The cast members at Disney are going all out to make sure that guests at Walt Disney World and Disneyland will be having an amazing 4th of July. But if you plans call for you to stay a little closer to home this year, here are some suggestions on how to share a little Disney magic with family and friends.
- Show a Drive-In movie in your drive-way! — Using your garage doors as a screen, grab your favorite Disney DVD, some lawn chairs and blankets to create an outdoor movie theater. Got a pool in your backyard? Then hang a white sheet between two trees and you will have a Dive-In theater! You won’t have to call over the neighbors, they will see the fun and join right in.
- Bake up some cupcakes with the kids. While your treat is in the oven, create these cute Disney 4th of July food flags to decorate your creations. Parents, did you know that having children read and follow recipes and instructions actually helps prevent summer brain-drain? It’s a sneaky way to throw in some refreshing math and reading skills. Who said you can’t have your “cake” and eat it too?!
- Need something to occupy the kids time while you are waiting for darkness and the fireworks shows to begin? These festive and patriotic airplanes and pinwheels featuring Mickey and his pals will surely do the trick.
- In case of a rain-out, there are plenty of Disney board and video games that will keep the whole family entertained. One of my favorites is Disney DVD Bingo. The kids love to play it and playing for “prizes” makes a great way to get rid of a few white elephants laying around the house.
Whatever your plans, have a safe and happy 4th of July!
