Serena & Venus Williams Hit DC Tennis Courts
WTT Pro League tennis was co-founded in 1974 by tennis great Billie Jean King. The league brings together some of the best pro tennis players in the world on 11 teams for a 3-week season, including a Washington DC team.
The WTT Washington Kastles professional tennis team includes tennis stars Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams.
Other teams include tennis legend John McEnroe(NY Sportimes), Andy Roddick playing for the Philadelphia Freedoms and part-time model Anna Kournikova with the St. Louis Aces, all who will be paired against the Washington Kastles.
The teams include 11 franchises representing Boston, Delaware, Kansas City, Newport Beach, St. Louis Philadelphia, Sacramento, Springfield Washington DC and 2 teams in New York..
Their 3-week season, from July 5th to July 25th, will have the 11 teams competing for the King Trophy.
Matches and rules are different from traditional tennis as the co-ed teams of 2 men and 2 women compete on each team. Set matches consist of 5 sets, including:
- One set each of men’s singles and doubles
- One set each of women’s singles and doubles
- One set of mixed doubles
Last season, the Washington Kastles came in second place in the NTT’s Easter Division.
