A Day at Cancun Caribe Park Royal Grand
The view from my balcony this morning made the long day of travel yesterday completely worth it. I’m right on the beach and it’s taking all of my strength to not just hop over the railing and land in the sand. It’s that beautiful!
The morning shower was one of the best I’ve ever had. With two jets and an overhead rain shower head, it’s the perfect way to start the day.
Breakfast was a buffet, offering a great variety of foods including fresh pastries, fruit, french toast and fresh juices. There was also a table for cold breakfast items like cereal and then in the center of the room, guests could order custom-made omelets.
After breakfast it was time to head to the spa to unwind. I had a 50 minute deep tissue massage and it was truly excellent. Again, I’m pretty picky about my massages because I’ve got a lot of injuries but this really was a great experience. The spa and gym are very, very clean and well laid out. I wish I had time to check out the yoga class!
After a great lunch in the main building (and some nachos by the pool) I took a walk along the beach and learned a little bit about the sandy beach. After Hurricane Wilma, the remaining water consumed the beaches. A vacuum of sorts was brought in to transport sand from Cozumel Island (map) to Cancun (map) in order to restore the beachfront that tourists so dearly love. Unfortunately, the water is slowly reclaiming that sand so I’m wondering if they will have to do the whole thing again. Either way, it’s very beautiful (despite the overcast skies thanks to Tropical Storm Alex) and I loved putting my toes in the sand!
The afternoon was filled with a guacamole making class and some time by the pool spinning tales about Chupacabra and enjoying drinks at the swim-up bar. Shoppers can get their fix and nearby La Isla, a beautiful outdoor shopping mall.
Dinner was at El Mirador, the property’s Italian eatery. The menu was mostly pasta and pizza and is a safe bet for those seeking fare that is more similar to that found in North American restaurants. The food was adequate, although not outstanding. My selections were the Tomato Basil Cream soup and the linguine with bolognese sauce, both quite good. For dessert, I chose several items from the buffet including a delicious tiramisu.
Tomorrow it’s off to explore Xcaret eco-park!
