More Summer Music Festivals
If you’re visiting Vancouver this summer, take in some cultural events. You’ll have plenty of choices. There’s a variety of festivals happening in the city and around the Province from choral to dance and then some.
- For anyone planning to head up the coast to Powell River (map), the hills will be alive with the sound of music when choirs from around the world join singers for the 14th biannual Kathaumixw Festival. (July 6 – 10). Forty choirs from Europe,the Philippines, New Zealand, Taiwan, Uganda, Jamaica, Canada and US as well as six choirs from the Powell River Academy of Music and the Powell River Chorus will compete. The Symphony Orchestra of the Pacific is the orchestra in residence composed of advance students from around the world.

- Dancing on the Edge (July 8 to 18) at the Firehall Arts Centre and other venues, the 22nd annual contemporary dance festival. Info and Tickets
- All Over the Map is an annual dance and music series held at Granville Island each Sunday at 2 pm (July 11 to August 29) at Ron Basford Park (map) Free. Info
- Vancouver Early Music Festival (July 25 – August 14) at avrious venues on the University of BC campus (map). The early music festival celebrates its 40th year with a concert series devoted to Claudio Monteverdi including a mounting of Vespers of 1610 co-presented with Music Fest Vancouver at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts (August 12) (map) Info
