Urban Camping in NYC (and It’s Free!)

Get your family together and join the Urban Park Rangers in New York City on Friday and Saturday nights this July and August! The Urban Park Rangers have put together a summer camping experience at parks within the five boroughs that starts with a cookout, followed by activities such as stargazing and night hikes. They even provide the tents and food!

There are a few opportunities left to take advantage of, so mark your calendar for the registration date*!

• OWL’S HEAD PARK (map) – Friday, July 16, 2010 from 6:00 p.m.– 7:00 a.m. Online registration begins on Wednesday, July 7, 2010.
• CUNNINGHAM PARK (map) – Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 6:00 p.m.– 7:00 a.m. Online registration begins on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
• CENTRAL PARK (map) - Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 6:00 p.m.– 7:00 a.m. Online registration begins on Wednesday, July 28, 2010.
• ALLEY POND PARK ADVENTURE CENTER (map) – Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 6:00 p.m.– 7:00 a.m. Online registration begins on Wednesday, July 28, 2010.

*The event is free, but registration is required, and there are a limited number of spots (30 spots are available each night).  A lottery system has been created to give everyone a fair chance to participate.  The lottery will be open to submissions for a 24-hour period, beginning at midnight on the dates specified. Only one registration entry per household or you will be disqualified from the lottery!
