Once-in-a-Lifetime Honeymoons in Kenya
Planning a wedding (and a future life together) can be very stressful. Therefore, many couples really look forward to the honeymoon. While some are happy to lounge on the beach or blend in with the hustle and bustle of a big city, other couples want a more unique experience filled with both adventure and relaxation and what better place to do it than in Africa?
Sister properties, Shompole and Olarro, in Kenya (map) offer truly memorable honeymoon packages that allow couples to connect with each other and various ecosystems in a truly intimate and special way.
At Shompole, in the Great Rift Valley, a Land Rover decorated with white roses and ribbons will escort the couple to a
traditional Maasai blessing ceremony that includes 260 singing spear-wielding warriors, mammas and shangikis (young unmarried girls), a witch doctor and feast (complete with beer, water, local dishes and goats!).
The blessing ceremony, including all arrangements, totals $2,750. Add-ons include fireworks, fragrant lilies or the traditional slaughter of a fine bull, to nourish the entire group, with the heart to be eaten by the groom.
Seriously, can you imagine how amazing a wedding blessing ceremony, complete with fireworks, in Africa would be? Sounds incredible!
After all of that excitement, guests can make their way to Olarro, on the edge of the Maasai Mara, to relax by the pool, or in the spa. Comprised of seven cottages featuring cool white interiors and earth-tone accents, Olarro combines modern comforts with an authentic African experience. There is a single house, Little Olarro, located near the main lounge for guests seeking a little more space and privacy.
The month of June is almost over but guests who book by June 30, 2010 will be eligible for the “stay for three nights, pay for two” rate. Rates begin at $630 per person double per night at Shompole, and $684 per person double per night at Olarro, including daily game drives or walks and at Olarro, one spa treatment per person.
